On the 15th of April Rob Powell and 2 friends summited the North Face of the Eiger.
We climbed the Heckmair Route which is the classic route up the North Face. It took us 2 and a half days to get up and down.
We bivied at ‘Death Bivy’ and just below the ‘Quarts Crack’. The route is very long with many sustained hard sections all climbed in winter condition (big boots, crampons and ice tools). The climbing is generally very good although the same cannot be said about the rock quality which is a times (most times) a little worrying.
The team comprised of Paul Maine (my english mate who lives in Chamonix) and Joris Volmer (my mate who I climbed with in Patagonia, half Dutch / English but lives in Scotland).
