During the mid year vacation a group of UCT students hiked the length of the Transkei. The Trek was from Port Edward to the Kei River Mouth in the Transkei, South Africa.
280km’s in total!
The Trek was sponsored by University of Cape Town, Mountain and Ski Club.
I’ve put together a short video of the experience…

Awesome trek but unless it was from Port Edward in KZN to the Kei mouth then it was not the length of the Transkei.
There is a great mountain bike ride called the Imana Wild Ride from Kei mouth to just south of St Johns. These things are so much fun, who really cares if it strictly covers the length of the transkei? Is there some register that we aren’t aware of? They had a rad time and did a cool thing. Be jealous, not fussy!
loikkk!!!
Hey Carl
That was actually a typo in the video,
We hiked from Port Edward not Alfred.
But as Warren says- who cares!
I did say awesome trek didn’t I? And I am jealous! Very jealous.
Thought it was a typing mistake as the footage is clearly of the Transkei, just had a bit of a chuckle as Port Alfred – Kei is not even in the Transkei!
Seems amazing! Want to do this for my 40th soon. Did anyone map it? Where can we find more info? It seems that many people only do partial hikes, not the full one…! How long did it take?
