The first blast in Cogmanskloof that will take place today, 19 January 2016.
Remember that the R62 between Ashton and Montagu will be closed to all traffic at 11:00. The first blast will be a relatively small blast, and we hope to have the road open to traffic again before 13:00.
Hikers and climbers should evacuate the blast danger zones before 10am – see attached documents.
The blasting will take place on most Tuesdays and Thursdays from now on, so plan around this road closure if possible. Please also remember to inform tourists and guests of the blasting arrangements.

From November 2015 to August 2015?
Well spotted! The poster has been amended and a new version uploaded.
Blasting till August 2016
Thanks!
Correct
They will in fact be blasting back in time.
First round first minute, oh, sorry, I mean first line first sentence….
Thanks Justin, now no history will be made there.
What is the blasting about?
Warren, the blasting is on the sharp bend (where quite a few accidents have occurred), this is about 200 meters before the tunnel (on the Montagu side).
See the photos of the blasting above.
I see this is an old blog, but I hope somebody somewhere still page these. I want to know whether the R318 is a tarred road and what the condition is.
The R318 is a single, two lane road, tarred and good in (almost great) condition.
It’s also a beautiful drive. From Montagu you enter the Keisie Valley, then go up Burgers Pass. You’re now in the Koo Valley, drive up Rooihoogte Pass and eventually you end up at the N1 (north of De Doorns).
We were up there recently playing in the snow 😃
