Double feature #betabinge this week. We look at Red Guitar On Fire (7a+/7b) at The Mine. Find both videos on my YouTube channel. Each showing different beta for the crux:

The first pic (below) in this post is of Gwaarraa, taken by Johnny Miller I believe? I love the “subtle” significance of this picture. It replicates an old picture of the legendary Tinie Versveld pulling the same move (the crux). You can find said picture on the back cover of Guy Holwill’s 1994 guide (Western Cape Crags). This is where I first saw it and that was when I started dreaming of one day climbing this route.

Pic two (below) is a screenshot from the video of my send back in 2004. In the vid I use the same beta as Tinie and Garrreth for the crux. Back then I still had to learn that every route does NOT only have one set of beta.

Pic three (below) is a screenshot from the video of Matt Lachenichtdoing it a few years later in 2009. In this video Matt shows us some alternate sidepull beta for the crux.
The route is much more than just the crux though. A long move low down, a double kneebar half way, a second balancy crux after the first one, with some pumpy climbing to the chains. ‘n Roete uit die boonste rakke
