Climbing Areas in South Africa

Oorlogs Kloof

There are several crags in Oorlogs Kloof with +/- 40 routes. There are also a number of trad routes. Most of the walls are north facing (best visited when the weather is cooler), but some are in gulleys and a few face south (all day shade). The routes vary from 8-30m long and from slabs to overhanging walls.

Cape Town

Cape Town offers fantastic bouldering and sport climbing around Silvermine and world class multi-pitch trad climbing on Table Mountain.

Montagu

Montagu is in the Western Cape, South Africa, +/- 180 km (2 hours drive) from Cape Town. It is famous for it’s rock climbing and beautiful folded mountains.

Waterval Boven

Waterval Boven – ‘Boven (aka The Restaurant at the End of the Universe crags) – is arguably South Africa’s best sport climbing area.

Rocklands

Rocklands is 250km/3 hours north of Cape Town. It is a very beautiful area in a semi-desert setting, very isolated and very safe. Rocklands is undoubtedly famous for it’s world class bouldering but this should not deter you from sampling the fine sport climbing.
