Montagu is one of the sport climbing meccas in South Africa. Recently a devastating fire swept through the mountains surrounding the town, seriously affecting the vegetation and bases of quite a few of the rock walls that boast many of the climbs that Montagu is famous for.

This year’s Rock Master was very different from previous years. Rock Master 2018, the 8th year running, moved away from the regular “Lead Climbing only” format, to embrace the new Olympic format, which includes three disciplines – Speed, Boulder and Lead.
