Silvermine climbing day permit
Hello all! I am. A new climber and want to try going to Silvermine with some friends. From what I could see, one needs a permit to climb. Do I have to get an ‘Activity Permit’ or can one buy a day permit at the gate? It seems a bit silly to have to purchase a year permit if one is an occasional visitor. Any ideas on cost?
Re: Silvermine climbing day permit
You just pay for a day permit at the gate, approx R35 per person

But is that R35 the conservation fee or the activity permit cost?

Does it really matter?

No it does not really matter. I was just wondering a) if the cost of the activity permit is over and above the entrance fee per person and b) if one can indeed purchase a permit to claim at the gate on entry or if one needs to go through the process of obtaining a wildcard-style activity permit valid for a year....

I have a Wild Card and that's a good deal. Gets you in the gate. I don't bother with the Activity Permit any more. Just tell them you are going hiking or swimming
The Wild Card works for Cape Nature properties too - Trujkieskraal. It's R625 per annum, rather reasonable.

Re: Silvermine climbing day permit
Technically, you should have an activity permit for sport climbing over & above the entrance fee.
*edited: there is actually a day permit.
However most (technically naughty) climbers don't bother with the permit, and also are never bothered by anyone to produce one.
So yes, if you want to stay out of the naughty corner you should buy an activity permit to climb (sport).
There is some unresolved discussion and a (mis)understanding that MCSA members are exempt from the activity permit.
So rather sign up to MCSA

The fees are here: https://www.sanparks.org/docs/parks_tab ... p-2021.pdf
Currently R90 per day for a day permit to climb.
