Are there competitions to qualify for provincial colours in climbing and if so, where and when do they take place and how would someone sighn up for such a competition?

The answer to your question in a nutshell is yes, you can get provincial and national colours for climbing (even a scholarship at a few universities as well). Start with the leagues in your local gym which are qualifiers for the provincial comp. If you do well at those then you're selected for the provincial team to compete at the national comp. Do well there and you could go overseas to represent SA.

Comp climbing is an entirely different sport to a day at the crag with your mates though.

Hope that helps,

the South African National Climbing Federation is the organisation that co-ordinates competition climbing in SA, that affiliated to SASCOC who adjudicate Protea colours for Climbing. International competitive climbing is run by an organisation called IFSC. ... Federation
