Hi Guys
What is the best way to mark /identify your gear
I've seen tape and paint so far
But paint and even anodizing seems to get worn off :0)
And some tape goes all sticky

Your thoughts ??

Whatever you do, it will get worn off. Make peace with the fact that you will have to redo the marking from time to time. I use 3M reflective tape, since it makes it easier to find gear I've dropped in the dark. I've also seen nail polish work well, particularly the Halloween glow in the dark ones.

Nail polish works (and lasts) well.
It allows you to make a small discrete mark on your gear.

Hi.

A good question. I use tape. A black band with a narrow red band over it. It does wear eventually and more on high use items like ATCs but if placed carefully it works well.

I also keep a list of every item of climbing gear and clothing I have. I did from the start and add to it each time I buy. It's not too tedious but if ever I had a pack lost or stolen I'd be able easily to list items missing. It's surprising how quickly how much gear one accumulates. It's easy too to forget what one has too.

Engrave the ali in the places that they don't see wear eg the inside of a cam's lobe. Email address ideally. Typically its the metal stuff thats expensive, not slings

Seconding Justin's recommendation of nail polish (except for the discrete part). Make sure it's on low wear areas - e.g. Inside cam lobes, inside nuts (for the hollowed out big nuts), inside I-beam (if you have I-beam 'binders), inside ... You get the point. Use two or three colors to ensure uniqueness.

PS - when my (now fiancé) first moved in with me, she found two bottles of nail polish, assumed they belonged to a previous girlfriend, and threw them out. So I bought some more. Led to an awkward conversation when she found the same color nail polish in the bathroom, and was concerned about another lady in the house.
