Scarpa products South Africa - buying online?

Post by BPerrett »

Hi all

Anyone had any experience buying Scarpa shoes from scarpasouthafrica.com vs Amazon and what seems to be the main scarpa.com site?

The scarpasouthafrica.com is significantly cheaper than Amazon/scarpa.com, but I am concerned it may be a scam site.

Any input would be appreciated.

I seem to remember seeing a similar thing in another country on a forum a while back. The site also looks kind of shitty, nothing like scarpa.com and prices are way too low.
Scam, I think. I'd stay away...

That looks, suspect. Dragos' on bananafingers is £109 (R2100). How can they get Dragos into the country for R1000 (£50)? Maybe, contact the official Scarpa site and ask them? At least they might want to know there is a scam site going around.

Check if there's a South African distributor and contact them to find out if it is legit. It smells very scammy.

Hi all
I would like to add some clarity to this topic:

1. Scarpa is coming to South Africa. The distributor is Traverse Outdoor Gear. Product will be arriving in stages. Some rock shoes are already available at Bloc 11, Drifters (JHB) and Southern Rock. More rock shoes, mountain, trekking and approach will be arriving in summer 21 (Nov / Dec) and trail running will be arriving Autumn (March/April). Keep an eye on www.traversegear.co.za for the latest info.

2. neither Traverse Outdoor Gear nor Scarpa is responsible for the website scarpasouthafrica.com
There is a good chance that it is a fraudulent site as similar sites appeared for inov8southafrica and tevasouthafrica.
I have it on good authority that a couple of folk burnt themselves while trying to buy on the inov8southafrica site.

Is there no ombudsman for this sort of stuff? In this case you'd think Alibaba and Scarpa have the power to stop them.
