Search for 'Solo Ascent'

Hi

Need a copy of Solo Ascent (by Chris Lomax and others).
This was a 1983 SABC film.

Looking for an electronic copy - or a DVD - happy to pay.

Live in Auckland and visiting Cape Town in April.
Good friend (Auckland) was deeply involved with ZA climbing (and that film) and mentioned it recently - just after we'd both watched Free Solo.
I'd like to surprise Butch with a copy of Solo Ascent.

Anyone know where I might lay hands on it ?

Seems it was shown at a Cape MCSA 'slideshow' on March 2nd, 2010.
Hopefully someone still has that copy ?

Hi Paul,
The MCSA has an mpeg copy on DVD in 2 parts each 11 minutes long and each about 735 MB, but not very good quality.
I am trying to contact Chris Lomax to ask if he is able to authorise that you may have a copy.

The editor and director of the film for SABC was Duncan McLachlan who lives in NZ these days.
If the 'Butch' you refer to is Butch de Bruin then he was also one of the cameramen, as well as being an ace climber himself.

We named a cat Lomax after Chris Lomax after seeing that documentary! We were amazed by the the film.
Only got into climbing many years later in 2002.
