This rare, knobbly, quietly majestic tree has been hanging on in the rocky cliffs of the Cederberg for millennia. But it's now critically endangered — not just from old logging scars, but from intense fires, seed-eating critters, and the slow creep of climate change.
Thankfully, there’s a small but mighty team ready to do something about it.
Sustainable Ceder has a plan:
They’ve been shortlisted for a €30,000 grant from the EOCA European Outdoor Conservation Association — but here’s the twist: the winner is decided by public vote!
That’s where you come in.
If you’ve ever hiked the Cederberg, or just love the idea of a tree making a comeback, please take 1 minute to vote:
1. Go to https://lnkd.in/d6SBxKaN
2. Scroll to the Wild Places category
3. Vote for "Reviving the Critically Endangered Clanwilliam Cedar"
4. Send it to your aunt & uncle so it says "forwarded many times"
Voting closes on 14 April. Let’s give the Clanwilliam cedar a fighting chance.
Because once it's gone… well, it’s gone.
